In my home, dog hair is a fashion statement, and pets are always allowed on the furniture. I will shamelessly cook a meal for my dogs that’s nicer than my own, and somehow I’m still surprised that my camera roll is 99% dog pictures.

If this sounds like a familiar scene, you’re in the right place.

I’m a ‘Zillennial’ dog mom and professional writer who loves nothing more than spending a weekend sightseeing with my husband and dogs, but you may be surprised to learn that I wasn’t always this way. As a young child, I would sob in fear at the mere sight of the neighbor’s Chihuahua, but a team of supportive family friends helped me transform my fear into fascination by the time I finished fifth grade. After spending time with my friends and their dogs after school, I could see just how life-changing it is to bond with a dog. While some kids waited for the latest video game console or begged to try out for sports, I longed for a furry friend of my own.

He came in the form of a nervous rescue Cockapoo from our local animal shelter. During my first week of high school, my dad and I visited the shelter ‘just to look,’ but quickly fell in love with the sweet, sad Poodle mix hiding in the back of his kennel. We returned the following day to meet him in the play yard, and by the end of the week, he was in his forever home.

Now, Carter the Cockapoo is 15 and enjoying his retirement with my also-retired parents. Talk about a match made in heaven! He will always be my first love and ‘little brother,’ but he’s now the oldest of three special dogs in my life.

Shortly before graduating from college, I met the guys who would turn my life upside down. My now-husband and his dog, a goofball Siberian Husky/Alaskan Malamute mix named Jack, have always been a package deal, and it’s hard to imagine them any other way. Caring for and even playing with Jack was vastly different than how I acted with Carter, but these fun and fascinating differences only made me love dogs even more.

Rescue pup Pepper joined the family most recently after a whim led us to a pet store adoption event. My heart broke at the sight of him cowering in his kennel (I’m sensing a pattern here), but the moment the volunteers placed him in my arms, I knew he was coming home with us. To this day, I’ve never seen a more affectionate dog!

Why I Started Dog Mom Blog

After graduating with a B.A. in English in 2020, I became a full-time freelance writer in the pet and lifestyle niches, which has allowed me to apply my education in a practical way. From interviewing veterinarians to reporting on animal shelter adoption statistics, I can identify and share trustworthy information in a way that feels fresh and relatable.

You’ll find my Pet News articles on PetHelpful, though I also spent several years writing about pet care and health on PawTracks. I also have experience covering adoption stories on Rocky Kanaka, as well as B2C blogs for pet brands like Smalls.

I started Dog Mom Blog to create a connection between pet parents and the products, events, and information that can enhance their lives. No gatekeeping allowed! I noticed a lack of online lifestyle resources for dog owners seeking travel tips, shopping guides, and social media trends, and I believe that everyone should have access to this information. With careful research, expert sources, and engaging storytelling, each article will provide you with accurate, practical, and up-to-date dog mom tips & dog advice. After all, our dogs deserve the best!
